Originating from the small town of San Marzano Sul Sarno near Naples, Italy, the Big San Marzano tomato looks different than its more popular counterpart, the Roma tomato.
Shaped as a tear drop with a thicker flesh, these plum-type tomatoes are commonly used to make pasta sauce. Famous for its sweetness, the San Marzano variety is a great vegetable to add to any salad or sandwich.
With so much flavor packed in one tomato, it’s not surprising that gourmet chefs around the world continue to choose this heirloom tomato over all the others.
Storage: Room temperature. Roasted San Marzano tomatoes make a great snack!
